"Poetry becomes present as a kind of transcendence of life itself, and of death itself, since we know that a man dies in each instant, and is, in a certain sense, the result of this dialectical confrontation. The poem incarnates that dialectic: it lies hidden, pulses and contradicts itself, makes and destroys itself at each moment, it is a perpetual creation, unceasing, inclusive even of the social act, given that the reader develops, prolongs and recreates it. The word wishes to trap an instant of eternity."
